Gifts for expectant mothers

Walking along the high street of any major town or city in the UK you will notice quite a lot of pregnant women. It looks as if Britain is going through some kind of a baby boom. If you are between the ages of 25 and 35, it is more than likely you know someone who is expecting a little bundle of joy sometime in the next nine months. If this is the case, you are probably thinking about buying them a present, something to say ‘congratulations’ better than words alone. But with so many mums-to-be wandering around, what do you buy them?

The obvious choice is baby clothes. But, strictly speaking these are for the baby, not for mum. If you do want to splash out on clothes for mum’s mini-me then go for something original. Mamas and Papas have a great range of ultra-cute baby clothing, as do Cheekaboo and Jelly Babys.

Flowers are probably the next most popular choice. And, let’s be honest, who doesn’t like getting flowers. Also, these are actually for your pregnant friend not her incoming sprog. Choose calming and fresh flowers, as pregnancy isn’t for the feint hearted. For something a little longer lasting give the mum-to-be a pot plant. She can then watch it grow along with her little one.

However, you could choose to give something a little different, and specifically timed for during pregnancy: maternity wear. Just because a woman is expecting a baby and is therefore walking around with a lump for a belly doesn’t mean fashion should go out the window. Of course, comfort is going to become more important but pregnant mums don’t need to cover up in a man’s shirt or wear leggings and over-sized t-shirts.

If you still want to give a little more and make the proud owner of that four-month bump feel extra special then give the gift of spa treatments. Full-body massages, facials and aromatherapy treatments can relax and rejuvenate, which won’t only please mum, but the baby inside her tum too.
